How to Set Up a URL Redirect for Your Custom Domain

Updated 9/5/2026

At Cohere, we know many coaches prefer to use their own custom domain for their website.
This guide will show you how to set up a URL redirect from your custom domain to your Cohere subdomain (for example: coachfirstnamecoachlastname.cohere.live).

Why Set Up a URL Redirect?

  • 🌐 Use your personalized web address while still hosting on Cohere

  • 🔗 Make it easy for clients to find you under your brand

  • 💼 Keep your Cohere site professional and consistent with your existing domain

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Purchase a Domain

Buy a domain from a trusted provider such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains.

Step 2: Log In to Your Domain Registrar

Go to your domain provider’s website and log in to your account.

Step 3: Find Domain Management

Navigate to your Domain Management section — often labeled “My Domains,” “Manage Domains,” or similar.

Step 4: Select Your Domain

Choose the domain you’d like to connect with Cohere.

Step 5: Locate Redirect or Forwarding Settings

Look for URL Redirect, Domain Forwarding, or Forwarding Settings — usually under DNS Settings or a similar tab.

Step 6: Add a Redirect Rule

Create a new redirect or forwarding rule.
You’ll need to enter:

  • Redirect Type: Choose 301 (Permanent) or 302 (Temporary).
301 is recommended for SEO-friendly redirects.

  • Source URL: Your custom domain (e.g. www.yourcustomdomain.com)

  • Destination URL: Your Cohere subdomain (e.g. coachfirstnamecoachlastname.cohere.live)

Step 7: Save Your Settings

Once entered, click Save to apply the redirect rule.

Step 8: Wait for DNS Propagation

Changes can take a few minutes to a few hours to update globally.
Once active, visitors to your custom domain will automatically be redirected to your Cohere website.

Example: Setting Up a Redirect on GoDaddy

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account.

  2. Go to My Products.

  3. Under Domains, click Manage next to your chosen domain.

  4. Scroll to Additional Settings → click Manage DNS.

  5. In the Forwarding section, click Add under Domain.

  6. Choose 301 (Permanent) or 302 (Temporary).

  7. Enter your Cohere subdomain as the destination.

  8. Click Save to confirm.

✅ That’s it! Your redirect is live — anyone visiting your custom domain will now land on your Cohere site.
